The project is aimed at reinforcing women’s rights culture as an essential aspect of democracy and fostering a gender-equal sense of citizenship in Latvia.
Extensive advocacy will be carried out within the project, ensuring a gender-equal perspective in the decision-making and civic participation processes. Public awareness-raising will also be carried out, creating an understanding of the importance of women’s perspective and gender equality within the democratic processes. The most important policy-making and civic engagement initiatives that will be implemented in the project are related to the ratification of the Istanbul convention, adoption of a law regulating civil partnerships, addressing the need for a Gender equality law, and reviewing the Morality amendment within the Education law. The most important educational and informative activities, in turn, will include developing a practical handbook for activists with advice and tools for efficient civic engagement, as well as training for vulnerable groups (such as residents of regions, victims of human trafficking) to ensure skills and resources for civic participation.
As a result of the project, more women and youth will participate in civic activities and decision-making process, as well as believe in their power to influence the political decisions made, due to knowledge, skills and experience gained via participating in advocacy initiatives.
Cooperation with donor countries: the project is being implemented in cooperation with the Norwegian organization “Venner av Martasenteret i Riga”.
