Strategic projects: 93 applications received in the first call for Strategic projects
On 29 July 2020, the first open call for Strategic Projects of the Active Citizens Fund (AIF) was completed with a total of 93* project applications received - 75 in the programme “Democracy Culture” and 18 in the programme “Human Rights”.
The ACF particularly appreciates that civil society organisations willing to promote long-term positive changes in the fields of democrary culture and human rights represent all regions of Latvia. Half of all project applicants works in the whole territory of Latvia.
Territory of project applicants' activities
One third of all project applicants plans to develop partnerships with donor countries – there are partners from Norway in 25 projects and partners from Iceland in 8 projects. 14 projects include cooperation with other countries - most often partnerships are planned with organisations from Estonia and Lithuania. Several projects also include cross-sectorial cooperation, involving public authorities (including, ministries), municipalities and their institutions, as well as business companies.
The total funding requested from the AIF is slightly more than EUR 9 million, which is 3 times more than the amount available in the call. The largest competition will be in the programme “Human Rights”, where the total funding requested is €1 724 110,94 or 5.5 times more than the amount available (€ 315 000). Total request of funding in the programme “Democracy Culture” is € 7 317 044.82 or 2.8 times more than the available amount (€2 625 000).
Currently eligibility check of projects is being carried out after which projects will be submitted to qualitative evaluation. Each project will be assessed by 2 experts. The results of the project call will be communicated to each applicant in the AIF project system https://projekti.activecitizensfund.lv by 31 August 2020, and will be published on the AIF home page.
